Tourist Attractions You Must See in Bari
The coastal city of Bari, located in the breathtaking Puglia region, is a location that is considered to be truly incredible. From the stunning sights, to the many great pieces of ancient architecture; a vacation in Bari certainly won’t disappoint.

1: Lido San Francesco
Any tourists in Bari who are looking for an excellent beach to spend a day at is sure to fall in love with the immaculate sand and perfect waters at Lido San Francesco.
Aside from history and culture, the region of Puglia is famous for its stunning coastline and the many amazing beaches that can be found along it. A number of which are located in Bari alone, and while there are many options for a relaxing day out, you won’t want to miss out on the chance to enjoy a day at Lido San Francesco.
There are plenty of great bars and restaurants surrounding the beach, as well as a variety of great shops that aren’t too far away at all – so you could easily spend an entire day relaxing and shopping in this part of Bari.
2: Teatro Petruzzelli
Teatro Petruzzelli is Bari’s largest theatre, not to mention one of the biggest in the whole of the country – and this is just one of the reasons why you might want to pay this site a visit during your stay.
The theatre has a beautiful orange façade, with a number of intricate details, decorations, and stunning sculptures. The interior is just as breathtaking, playing host to a spacious auditorium with red velvet and gold trimmings. From the outside, the theatre is impossible to miss.
There are many great shows performed here, so you might not want to pass up the opportunity to see one during your vacation.
3: Egnazia
If you’re interested in the ancient side of Bari, you’re sure to want to check out Egnazia – the ruins of a coastal town that dates back to the 8th century BC. You’ll be able to see parts of walls and the foundations for buildings, but unfortunately, not much else has survived. There are several interesting artifacts that have been found here; all of which are located at the site’s museum.
Despite how incredible this landmark is, it’s not too well known – and this could be because it’s located about an hour away from the city. Most will agree that this makes Egnazia even more special, so you may want to add it to your itinerary if you to want to come and explore.
4: Lungomare Nazario Sauro
Puglia is home to some truly incredible coastal areas, but if you’re visiting Bari, you won’t want to miss out on the beauty of Lungomare Nazario Sauro – one of the city’s most beautiful promenades.
Most people know of Lungomare Nazario Sauro because of its scenic views; either of the stunning sea, or the beautiful architecture on the opposite side. The path starts at the harbor and ends at the Paro per Cani, which is about 1000m, so there’s plenty of space for you to enjoy a relaxing walk by the sea.
If you feel like taking a break along the way, you could always make a stop at one of the great beach bars and have a drink while you recharge and soak up the sun.
5: Basilica of San Nicola
There may be a number of Romanesque churches in Puglia, but most will agree that one of the best is the Basilica of San Nicola.
While it was constructed in 1197, this site is still perfect today. You’re likely to notice the beautiful façade, which has several little details and incredible sculptures for you to feast your eyes upon. And you won’t be let down by the interior design, either. The painted artworks, sculptures, mosaics, and golden ceiling are some of the elements that make this site a truly breathtaking place of worship. While visiting, be sure to check out the tomb of Saint Nicolas, too.
With all this, it’s not hard to see why this church is so well known for being one of the best in Bari – and even in the whole of Puglia.
6: San Sabino Church
The Church of San Sabino is another one of Bari’s many beautiful religious landmarks, although this one isn’t quite as well known as the basilica mentioned above. San Sabino Church is actually located near the Basilica of San Nicola, in the center of Bari’s old town, so if you want to see some incredible religious sites in particular, you might want to check out both of them.
On the outside, San Sabino Church doesn’t look too dissimilar from the Basilica of San Nicola, as the white stone façade features several sculptures and intricate details. The inside however, is completely different. The white stone and marble designs are sure to impress you, as is the beautifully decorated crypt. These are just two examples of why this site is worth a visit.
7: Bari Castle
While Bari Castle might date back to the 1100’s, this magnificent site is still in excellent condition. This Norman castle was built by King Roger the Second, and you’ll find that this structure is well worth a visit for many reasons. It’s comprised of a central courtyard and 4 towers, and is surrounded by a moat on three sides.
Those who want to learn more about the history of Puglia will be keen to pay a visit to this castle – and the stunning views of the city are something that you really won’t want to miss out on.
