Puglia Food You’ll Want to Try On Your Next Vacation.

Italy is a beautiful location with a lot to offer, but there’s no doubt that many of the people who choose to go on Italian getaways will want to try some of the delicious, traditional foods that are on offer.

Puglia, the region located on ‘the heel of Italy’s boot’, is no exception, offering visitors a wide variety of excellent dishes to try. This is one of the main reasons why going on a Puglia food tour can often be such a great idea.

What is Apulian food like?

Also known as Apulia, food in this region is often made from basic ingredients while still being hearty and tasty meals. This is because Puglia was once a rather poor area and many of the dishes iconic to this Italian destination are made from vegetables, bread, pasta, and cheeses, with ingredients like meat being far less common.

Not only are they filling, but they’re also good for you and taste great, thanks to the fact that the best Puglia recipes have been developed over the years by the Italians native to the region.

Are you ready to try some Puglia food and wine? Want to know what to eat in Puglia? If so, let us introduce you to some of the dishes you should add to your bucket list.

Puglia foods you simply have to try on your trip

Whatever it is about this region that interests you, you simply can’t miss out on the opportunity to eat some classic Puglia cuisine. To give you an idea of what to look for during your stay, here are just a few examples of the best food Puglia has to offer:

Puccia

This local style of flatbread from Salento is usually made with pizza dough, baked in a way that gives it a crunchy crust and soft interior. Puglia has some fantastic types of bread, which certainly spells good things for a variety of dishes. If you want to enjoy a tasty breakfast in Puglia, a slice of Puccia with bacon and egg could be perfect.

Orecchiette

Pasta is a typical Italian food, and it shouldn’t come as any surprise that there are several Puglia recipes that contain it. However, out of the different options for food in Puglia that we could choose from, we decided that Orrecchiette was the best choice for the simple fact that it’s one of the region’s most popular types.

Pasticciotti

Those with a sweet tooth will also be pleased with the selection of tasty delicacies of the region. An excellent example of this is Pasticciotti; bites of shortcrust pastry filled with ricotta, egg custard, or cream. You can often find variations of the tart in different bakeries across Lecce, ensuring that you can enjoy a different one every time.
